Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

MOSES W. GALLOWAY was born July 4, 1817, in Mecklenburg County, N. C. He removed with his parents in 1821 to Maury County, Tenn., where he grew to manhood. In 1837 he removed to Graves County, Ky., and in 1870 came to Hickman County, where he now resides. His father, John Galloway, a native of North Carolina, died in 1859, at the age of seventy-five years. John was twice married; first to Lucy, daughter of John Thompson, of Mecklenburg County, N. C., and their children are Sarah (Jones), John T., subject, Agnes N. (Mozeley), Daniel M., Narcissa (Hamlett) and Samuel S. There were born to him by his second wife Lucy (Fonnell), Elizabeth (Hamlett) and William M. Moses W. Galloway was married December 10, 1838, to Irena, daughter of John and Rebecca (Wall) Galbraith, of Maury County, Tenn., born in 1820, and died in 1870, and to them were born Mary J. (deceased), John T., Rebecca A. (Hughs), Virginia K. (Williamson), Victoria (deceased) and Ben H. He was next married, October 4, 1870, to Miss Sarah J., daughter of William and Elizabeth (McKiver) Cason, of Hickman County, Ky., born in 1822. Subject is a farmer, having 100 acres of good land in a high state of cultivation. He served as sheriff in Graves County, and has acted for many years as magistrate. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and since 1844 has served as elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In politics he affiliates with the Democratic party.
