M. D. WARD was born September 8, 1840, in Hickman County, and in the house where he now lives. He is a son of Michael and Mary E. (Grace) Ward. The father was born in Stewart County, Tenn., immigrated to this county in 1827, and settled in the neighborhood of Shiloh, where he died July 7, 1877, aged seventy-five. The mother was born in Trigg County; she died in 1882, aged eighty-two. Our subject enlisted in 1861 in Company E, Twelfth Tennessee Infantry, Confederate States Army; the following year he was transferred to the Third Kentucky Infantry, and served to the end of the war, after which he returned to his father’s farm, and was married to Sarah A. Spear, of this county; six children have blessed this union, four sons and two daughters. Mr. Ward was also engaged as a superintendent in the stave business from 1869 to 1871, in Missouri, Arkansas and Kentucky.
