Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

JOHN C. SUBLETT, Hickman County, was born November 5, 1830, in Oldham County, Ky. He is a son of James and Susan (Edzard) Sublett, both natives of Virginia. In 1832 they came to Hickman County, and engaged in farming. The father died June 12, 1860; the mother died in less than an hour after, caused from the severe shock and grief at her husband being taken away; she was born in Culpeper County, Va. John C. Sublett was reared on his father’s farm; at the age of seventeen he engaged with his brother in merchandising in Clinton, and so continued three years; he then went to Moscow and sold goods for W. W. Griffey about two years; he then returned to Clinton, and in 1852 engaged in selling goods for I. R. Dodge one year; then farmed one year; in 1854 and 1855 he sold goods for M. V. Tomlinson; he then farmed from 1856 to 1860. During the war he was engaged in farming, livestock raising and merchandising, and at the present is engaged in farming and handling grain. He owns several stores and residences in Clinton, and has erected a greater number of buildings here, probably, than any other man in Clinton. He owns a farm of 200 acres, where he resides, 100 acres of which are in the town limits. He has held the office of magistrate, and has been for eight years public administrator and guardian for minors. Mr. Sublett was married November 15, 1855, to Ann Martha Ringo, of this county, and has had born to him six sons and three daughters. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church; Mrs. Sublett is a member of the Baptist Church.
