Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

JAMES H. MYERS was born July 27, 1845, in Fulton County, and is a son of William T. and Rachael M. (Green) Myers; both parents were born in Bertie County, N. C., where they were married, and in 1845 came to Fulton County, Ky.; the father died in 1856, aged forty-two. The mother now lives in Hickman County. Our subject was reared on his father’s farm. He enlisted in 1862 in Company A, Twelfth Kentucky Cavalry, Confederate States Army, and served to the end of the war; after which settled in Wingo, and followed the carpenter trade and engaged in merchandising, in all about twelve years. In 1881 he moved to Wickliffe, and engaged in merchandising about eleven months; he then came to Clinton, where he has since resided, and at times is engaged in preaching in the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Meyers was married September 21, 1875, to Mrs. Nannie S. Hatchell of Graves County; they have one daughter. Mrs. Myers has two children by her former marriage.
