Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. J. G. SLAYDEN was born November 13, 1855, in Humphreys County, Tenn. He is a son of T. E. and Lovey (Council) Slayden. The father was a native of Virginia. In 1871 he came to Hickman County, and engaged in farming. Our subject was reared on his father’s farm, and at the age of eighteen entered a drug store as clerk. He has been engaged at this business ever since, and his present store was established in 1878. Mr. Slayden was married January 6, 1880, to Miss Mattie, daughter of Z. N. Bell, a native of Shelby County, Ky., who came to Hickman County in 1866. This union has been blessed with one daughter.
