Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

HENRY C. BRUMMAL was born in January, 1859, in this county, to John M. and Sally (Davy) Brummal. The father of our subject is a lawyer in good practice in Columbus; is also a native of this State, and was born in Green County, in 1830. Mrs. Brummal is a native of Independence, Mo. Henry C. is the third of seven children born to them. He received a good common school education, afterward going to Neopheogen College, Gallatin, Tenn. He also was sent to West Point, but remained there only three months, his leaving in such a short time being caused by a severe illness. He clerked shortly afterward for W. M. Heron for a few months, and also for Morton & Bro. for the term of two years. In 1882 he went to Louisville, Ky., clerking on the packet-boat for the Louisville & Henderson Company for a short period, coming home at the end of that year to commence farming on his own account on a farm, which he had purchased in 1880, situated two miles from Columbus on the Clinton Road, which he cultivates principally in fruit He also farms on his father’s property. In 1882 he married Miss Louisa C. Nagel, one of a family of children born to the late Frederick and Catherine Nagel, natives of Germany, who came to this country some short time after their marriage. In politics Mr. Brummal is a Democrat.
