My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

CHRISTOPHER H. LEE, was born in Bullitt County, Ky., July 24, 1842, and is one of the children born to James and Margaret (Atcher) Lee. The father was born in Bullitt County in 1806, and his mother was born in Leesville, Va., in 1807. In 1845 the family moved to Mississippi County, Mo., where James Lee died in 1877; his wife’s death took place in 1867. In the spring of 1862 Christopher enlisted in the Eighth Missouri Cavalry, but was mustered out after a year’s service on account of bad health. Mr. Lee spent most of his time prior to the war in working on the farm with his father, and hunting, a pastime in which he takes considerable pleasure up to the present time, being a dead shot. Mr. Lee was united in marriage to Miss Alice Ann Jones, a daughter of John F. and Jane (Edrington) Jones, of Mississippi County, Mo. Her grandfather, Price Edrington, was one of the earliest settlers of Wolf Island. To Mr. and Mrs. Lee have been born the following family: Margaret Jane, born in Hickman County, Ky., July 19, 1867; Rachael Valentine, born in Hickman County, Ky., February 14, 1869; Lillie Miles, September 23, 1871; Bettie Bryant, August 23, 1874; Chris. H., February 24, 1878; John James, May 31, 1880; Hooper Crews, February 8, 1883; the last five were all born in Missouri. Mr. Lee farms in Missouri, also in Wolf Island, where he has a nicely improved farm, willed to him by his father-in-law in 1883, comprising 117 acres. Unfortunately in 1882-84 the rising of the water did considerable damage to the crops, the loss in 1883 having been over $1,000.
