C. A. GREEN was born in Graves County, Ky., January 1, 1840. He is a son of Meekley and Julia A. (Goad) Green. The father was born in Virginia, and reared in Tennessee, and later removed to Graves County, Ky.; he is now living in southwest Missouri. The mother was born in Tennessee, and came with her parents to Graves County, in about 1830; they were among the earlier settlers of the county. Her father assisted with a whip-saw in sawing the lumber for the first house ever erected in Columbus. Our subject, at about the age of thirteen, came to this county, where he has since lived; he owns a farm of about 175 acres which he cultivates, but for the past eight years has also been engaged in merchandising. About three years since, a post office was established at his store, at which time he was appointed postmaster — Cypress being the name of the office. Mr. Green was married, in 1859, to Luticia Hayden of Graves County. These parents have had eight children, six of whom are now living. Mr. and Mrs. Green are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
