Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

Z. SUMMERVILLE, Graves County, was born August 16, 1847, in Calloway County, Kentucky, and is the son of Milton Summerville, who was well and favorably known throughout the State as a trader and speculator and who began business by buying and selling poultry, and after a time added horses, mules and cotton, principally the latter, and at his death, which occurred in Mississippi in 1861, at the age of forty-five, he was one of the most extensive dealers in cotton in the State. At the age of seven years, Z. Summerville, our subject, came with his parents to Graves County, where he engaged in agricultural pursuits until 1867, since which time he has been in the confectionery business. He was appointed postmaster in 1868, and held the office until 1881. In 1871 he married Miss Willie Turner, of Graves County, by whom he has two sons and one daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Summerville are members of the Baptist Church.
