Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

THOMAS M. STEWART is a native of Weakley County, Tennessee, and was born January 15, 1845; was reared in Henry County, the same State, and removed to Graves County, Kentucky, in 1870, where he has since continued to reside. He is the son of Green F. Stewart, a native of North Carolina, who died in 1857, at the age of thirty-nine years. Subject’s mother was Sarah A., daughter of Thomas Milam, of Weakley County, Tennessee. To her husband and herself were born Samantha C. (married first to Mr. Moore, and afterward to Mr. Brown), Margaret V. (Tharp), subject, Rebley A., James E., Sallie F. (married first to Mr. Eaker, and then to Mr. Alexander) and Green W. On August 16, 1876, subject was married to Miss Delilah E., daughter of Tilman and Susan A. (Jones) Johnson, of Henry County, Tennessee, and to them have been born Eunice M., Herbert W., Daisy A. and Thomas A. In 1861 Mr. Stewart enlisted in Company I, Forty sixth Tennessee Infantry, and afterward in the Twelfth Kentucky Cavalry, with which he served to the end of the war, during which he lost an arm at the battle of Harrisburg, Miss. His vocation at present is that of a farmer, and he owns 126 acres of good land, in a high state of cultivation. Having served four years as deputy, he was, in 1882, elected to the office of assessor of Graves County, which position he still retains. In religion he is a Methodist and in politics is identified with the Democratic party.
