My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

J. E. ROBBINS was born August 4, 1854, in Graves County, and is a son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Shelton) Bobbins. The father was born in Humphreys County, Tenn., and died February 14, 1873, aged sixty-two. The mother was born in Butler County, Ky., in 1820 and resides in Wingo; her father, Jeremiah Shelton, came to Graves County in 1820, and built a small log-cabin near Mayfield. He went back for his family and found, on his return to Graves County, that his cabin had been destroyed by fire during his absence, which obliged him to settle on Spring Creek, where he remained for eight years. He then moved to Weakley County, Tenn., and officiated as a Primitive Baptist preacher. J. E. Robbins, our subject, after studying law, began the practice of his profession in 1878, and is now a member of the law firm of Robertson, Smith & Robbins. He was married October 9, 1879, to Miss Eva Chowning, of Mayfield, Ky., by whom he has one son. Mr. and Mrs. Bobbins are members of the Christian Church.
