Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

DR. A. C. McFALL was born February 7, 1842, and is a son of William H. and Mary (Higgins) McFall; the former was born in middle Tennessee, September 15, 1808, is still living and resides at Fulton, Ky.; the latter was born December 4, 1809, and died January 24, 1860. Dr. McFall was born in Kentucky and reared in Tennessee, and was brought up on his father’s farm until the breaking out of the war in 1861. On the 5th of May in that year he enlisted in Company E, Fourth Tennessee Infantry (Confederate) and served to the end of the war, participating in the battles of Shiloh, Perryville, Missionary Ridge, and others. At the close of the war he returned home, exchanged his gun for the plow, and for ten years remained on the farm. He then commenced the study of dentistry with Dr. Hunsaker, remaining with him for three years, and in 1874 graduated from the Missouri Dental College at St. Louis. Upon graduating he came to Mayfield and opened dental rooms, where he has since continued the practice of the profession. He is master of the art of dentistry, and enjoys a large and lucrative practice, as well as the full confidence and esteem of his patrons and friends. He was married in May, 1874, to Mrs. Anna Mayes, by which marriage they have one daughter. Mrs. McFall has two daughters by her former marriage. Dr. McFall is a member of the Methodist Church and K. of H.; his wife is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
