Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WILLIAM CAMPBELL, Fulton County, was born in Graves County, Ky., August 3, 1821, and was brought by his parents to Hickman (now Fulton) County, in 1824, where he has continued his residence to the present time. His father, Squire Duncan Campbell, one of the early magistrates of the county, was born in North Carolina; was with Jackson at the battle of New Orleans, and died in 1853. Duncan married Penelope, daughter of James Cook, of Caldwell County, Ky., and as the result of this union were born James, Mary (Walls), William, Charles, Andrew, Alfred and Alen (twins), Henry and Sylvester. To him by his second wife were born Sarah, Joseph, Matilda and Caroline. December 17, 1856, subject was married to Miss Narticia F., daughter of John B. and Nancy (Higgs) Dent, of Weakley County, Tenn., and to them have been born John W., Frances B. (Chapell), James A., Nancy E., Robert L. and Adelia. Mr. Campbell is a farmer, owning 238 acres of good land, well improved. He is a Freemason and a Democrat.
