My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

T. M. FRENCH, Fulton County, was born in Russellville, Logan Co, Ky., on November 1, 1838, and is the son of John P. French, a native of Goochland County, Va. The father was a teacher by profession, and died in Russellville in 1841. Our subject’s mother was Mary (Binford) French, also a native of Virginia; she died in February, 1882, at the age of seventy-two years. After her husband’s death Mrs. French went back to Virginia with subject, who remained until twelve years of age, at which time he came to Fulton County, Ky., making his home with his uncle, who resided near Hickman. Here Mr. French followed farming as a business until 1875, at which time he was elected circuit clerk, a position he has since retained. In 1867 Mr. French was married to Miss Lauderdale, of Fulton County, by whom he had two children, both deceased. He was next married in 1877 to Miss Emma Stephens, of Fulton County; to this union have been born three children: Mabel, Bessie and Thomas Mason. Mr. French is a member of the K. of H., and in politics a liberal Democrat. He and wife are members of the Episcopal Church.
