Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

SAMUEL J. NOONON was born in Jessamine County, Ky., March 4, 1828, removed with his parents, in 1833, to Hickman, (now Fulton) County, where he still retains his residence. His father, John Noonon, also a native of Jessamine County, a soldier in the war of 1812, died there in 1843, aged about fifty-five years. He was the son of Patrick Noonon, a native of Ireland, who died in Jessamine County. Subject’s mother, Eliza, daughter of Samuel Hicks, of Jessamine County, is still living. To subject’s father, by his first marriage, were born Sarah (Corum), Elizabeth (Hicks) and Catherine (Campbell). The second marriage resulted in the birth of William T., subject, Nancy J. (Stevens), John H., Squire A., Joseph A., Mary A. (Carr), Courtney B. and Henry W. On September 30, 1852, subject was married to Miss Priscilla L., daughter of John and Susan (Durham) Burnes of Fulton County, and to them have been born Susan M. and Ettie E. Our subject is a very successful farmer, having 380 acres of valuable and productive land in fine condition, and in an excellent state of cultivation. He is a member of the fraternity of A. F. & A. M., and in politics is identified with the Democratic party. Mrs. Noonon is a Methodist.
