Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

OTTO HERTWECK, of the firm of Hertweck, Baltzer & Co., was born in Baden, Germany, in 1836, and is the son of Bernhardt and Martha Hertweck. The father was a weaver and died in 1856. aged sixty-three years; the mother died in 1878, at the age of seventy-nine years. Mr. Hertweck came to America in the year 1842, and located in Spencer County, Ind., where he remained until 1856, at which time he moved to Hickman. He engaged in the manufacturing business in 1858, which he has followed ever since, and in partnership with Mr. Baltzer is now operating the most extensive wagon works in west Kentucky. He was married in 1860 to Eliza E. Morton, of New York. Mr. and Mrs. Hertweck are the parents of seven children—Ida, Benjamin, Henry, Corrilla, Nettie, Roy, and Arch. Mr. Hertweck is a man of fine business qualifications, and at different times has held the office of city councilman and school trustee. He belongs to the K. of H., and is a member of the Catholic Church. Mrs. Hertweck is a member of the Episcopal Church.
