Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

JOHN S. BONDURANT, Fulton County, was born April 9, 1825, in Weakley County, Tenn., where he grew to manhood, and in 1847 removed to Fulton County, Ky., where he has since resided. His father, Robert M. Bondurant, a native of Shelby County, Ky., was born in 1798, removed to Tennessee in 1824, and died in 1859. He was the son of Benjamin, of Buckingham County, Va., who died in 1845. Robert M.’s father, John, was born in France. Robert M. married Nancy, daughter of John Shepherd, of Shelby County. She was born in 1801, and is still living. From this union sprang William W., subject, Susan J. (Cook), Benjamin H., Sarah P. (Mays), Wiley B., Thomas C. and Andy R. Subject was married October 21, 1847, to Miss Julia D., daughter of Alfred and Nancy (Davis) Edmiston, of Fulton County, Ky., (born February 6, 1828), and to them have been born Francis L. (deceased), Alpheus A., Robert A., Julia A. (deceased), Martha C., (Naylor) deceased, Nancy E. (McClanahan), John C., Kate E., Susan A. and Bailis C. Subject is a farmer, owing 148 acres of good land, well cultivated. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, a Baptist and a Democrat.
