Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

DR. CHARLES W. MILES was born November 10, 1848, near where he now resides, in Fulton County, Ky., and has retained his residence at this place to the present time. His father, Dr. Guy S. Miles, a native of Shelby County, was born in 1816; removed with his parents to Fulton County in 1882; enjoyed an extensive practice in his profession, and died here in 1881. He was the son of William Miles, a native of Fairfax County, Va. Dr. Guy S. was three times married, first to Martha A., daughter of Thomas Tyler, of Fulton County, and his children are: Callie (Payne), subject and Augusta (Norton); by his second wife: Mary (McConnell), Charlotte (McConnell), Corrinne (Norton) and Margaret (McConnell); by his third marriage: Rebecca, Maud and Guy S., Jr. Our subject was educated at the University of Missouri. On February 22, 1877, he was married to Miss Mary, daughter of Woodson and Willie F. (Lightner) Morris, of Obion County, Tenn., and to them have been born: Woodson M., Owen W. (deceased), Annie F. (deceased) and Charles W., Jr. In 1869 subject commenced the study of medicine with his father, and in 1870 entered the University of Louisville, Ky., where he graduated in 1872. He then practiced at his native place until 1874, when he attended Bellevue Hospital, which institution he again attended in 1878, since which time he has been successfully engaged in the practice of his profession. Dr. Miles also engages in farming, owning 240 acres of valuable land in a good state of cultivation. He is a member of the A. F. & A. M., of the K. of H., and is a Democrat.
