Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

B. D. THOMASON, Fulton County, was born in Christian Co., Ky., December 3, 1834. His father, George Thomason, was a native of Virginia, and came to Hickman from Christian County in 1864; he died two years later at the age of fifty-eight. The paternal grandfather of subject was Arnold Thomason, also a native of Virginia, which State he left in an early day, coming to Christian County, Ky., where he died in 1840. Subject’s mother, Elizabeth Thomason, is still living in Hickman. She is a daughter of Newson Pace, who distinguished himself in the war of the Revolution. At the age of seventeen years, subject entered the printing office of John C. Noble of Hopkinsville, where he acquired the typographical art, and two years later went to Henderson, Ky., where he found employment in the office of the Henderson Courier. Tiring of the printing business he next commenced merchandising at the town of Beverly, Christian County, where he remained until 1858 or 1859, at which time he closed out and went to Columbus, where he opened a grocery house, which he ran until the breaking out of the civil war. At the close of the war, he came to Hickman, where he engaged as clerk for a mercantile firm, retaining that position until 1871, at which time he effected a co-partnership with J. W. Corman in the hardware business. In 1878 the firm started a branch store in Malden, Mo., and Mr. Thomason went there in charge of the same, remaining until June, 1884, at which time he came back to Hickman, where he now resides. He was married, in 1857, to Harriet H., daughter of Carter L. and Adaline Bradshaw, the father a native of Virginia, and the mother of Mercer County, Ky. Mr. Thomason is an active member of the Masonic fraternity and K. of H. Mrs. Thomason is a member of the Christian Church.
