Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

B. B. LINN was born in Kentucky, January 17, 1847, and is a son of R. C. and Nancy (Irvan) Linn. The father was a native of Kentucky also, and was of Irish and French origin. His father came to the Purchase in 1823, and settled one mile east of where Murray now stands, where he entered and improved lands. Subject was reared on a farm. He remained at home until he was twenty, and then began clerking at Wadesborough. He remained there one year and then came to Murray, where he acted as salesman until 1870. He then engaged in the grocery business with his brother George. In 1872 his brother was elected sheriff of the county, and subject was appointed to the position of deputy sheriff, which office he held for about six years, and also served one year as deputy clerk. In 1878 he returned to the farm, where he resided two years. He was next appointed master commissioner for Calloway, which position he held two years. In December, 1882, he moved to Fulton, Ky., where he engaged in the furniture business. In 1884 he sold out and is at present book-keeper for R. A. Browder. Mr. Linn was married in November, 1873, to Miss Emma Boaz, of Calloway County, and a daughter of Dr. L. D. Boaz. This lady died in 1874, and subject was next married September 15, 1878, to Miss M. E. Utterback, a daughter of A. P. and James (Smith) Utterback, natives of Calloway County, and of German origin. The result of this marriage has been two children: Nancy E. and Harry P. He is a member of the A. F. & A. M., I. O. O. F., and K. of H. fraternities. Mrs. Linn is a member of the Christian Church.
