Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. JOHN DEAN, Jr., a native of Carroll County, Ky., was born January 1, 1856, the youngest of six sons born to John and Susan B. (Sarlls) Dean, natives of Pennsylvania and New York, respectively. John Dean, the father of our subject, settled in Carroll County in 1810 with his father, whose name was also John Dean. The father of our subject was born in 1800, and is still living. John Dean, Jr., was reared on the farm, educated in the common schools of Carroll County, and is a farmer. He is a member of the I. O. O. F.
