Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

A. F. KIPPING, a native of Saxony, Germany, was born June 11, 1835, and is a son of Abraham and Christina Kipping. He emigrated from Germany to Carrollton, Ky., in 1849. His father was a carpenter, now deceased. His mother died in 1862. A. F. Kipping was educated in the old country, and at the age of fourteen he immigrated to the United States, and began to learn the cabinet-maker’s trade under his uncle, F. M. Geier, serving an apprenticeship of seven years. July 14, 1861, he enlisted in Thirteenth Regiment, Company I, Kentucky Union Volunteers, and was mustered out as corporal, July 14, 1862. He was wounded in the knee at the battle of Shiloh. He returned to Carrollton in 1863, where he has since been in business. He was a partner of C. N. Stringfellow for twenty-two years, but in 1884 engaged in undertaking, carpentering and contracting for himself. November 17, 1863, he married Miss Julianna Kraut, a native of Germany, and has six children, viz.: Mary Anna, John Henry, William F., Carrie G., Charles T. and Oscar G. Mr. Kipping is a Mason, a member of the I. O. O. F. and a Good Templar. He is at present coroner of the county, is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and a Republican.
