Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. ROBERT Y. JERRELL was born November 11, 1830, in Spottaylvania County, Va., where he grew to manhood, and in 1848 removed to Christian County, Ky.; then in 1854 to Cameron, Tex., and in 1860 came to Ballard County, Ky., where he has since resided. His father, Bland Jerrell, a soldier in the war of 1812, died in 1855 aged fifty-seven years. He married Mary, daughter of Rev. Phillip and Mildred (Thomas) Pendleton, of Virginia, and their children are Joseph H., Mildred T. (Prichard), Mary E. (Garrott and Pitts), Lucy A. (Carnahan), Margaret H. (Pendleton), William J., Edmund W. and our subject as above. Mrs. Mary Jerrell died in 1844. On November 22, 1855, subject was married to Miss Tamasia A., daughter of Minor and Ann (Humphreys) Peyton, of Spottsylvania County, Va., born in 1833, and to this union were born Lee W., Otie E. (Ransdell), Robert M., Sallie P., Maud E., Tamasia A., Maggie P., Jefferson D., Lizzie B. and Mary Lena. Subject is a farmer owning 291 acres of fine land in a high state of cultivation. He is a member of the I. O. O. F., also a Baptist and a Democrat.
