Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

ROBERT R. WAKEFIELD was born in Spencer County, Ind., August 4, 1828, was removed by his parents in 1831 to Nelson County, Ky., and in 1845 to Louisville; in 1857 he came to Ballard County, where he has since resided. His father, William B. Wakefield, of Nelson County, Ky., was a soldier in the war of 1812, and died in 1856, at the age of sixty-six years. He was the son of John of Pennsylvania, a Revolutionary soldier. William B. married Charlotte, daughter of James and Nelly (Jackson) Headdy, of Nelson County; she died in 1853, aged fifty-six years, having borne her husband the following children: Squire H., Ellen (Graham), Louisa (Froman), Elizabeth A. (Smith), Susan (Bailey), subject, Samuel K., Charlotte (Grooms), Lois (Grooms), and Rebecca (Chickering). Subject was married, February 27, 1852, to Miss Henrietta, daughter of John and Ellen (Medcalf) Smith of Nelson County (born March 20, 1832), which union has resulted in the birth of one daughter, Ellen (Wakefield). Our subject is a farmer and stock raiser, having 400 acres of fine land, with as fine improvements as any in the county. He is a member of the Knights of Honor, and in politics is identified with the Democratic party.
