Below is a family biography included in History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

MATTHIAS H. FISHER was born November 3, 1835, in White County, Tenn., and in 1844 was brought by his parents to Ballard County, Ky., where he still retains his residence. His father, John Fisher, a native of White County, Tenn., was born in 1811 and died in 1878. He was the son of William Fisher, of North Carolina. John espoused Narcissa, daughter of Matthias Hutson of Tennessee (born in 1814 and still living), and from this union sprang William B., subject, John M., James, Myra A. (Jennings), George W., Thomas F., Alfred C., Norben T., Mary (Terry), Fountain P. and Reed. In youth subject received only a common school education, but has since greatly improved himself by reading standard books. He takes an active interest in the advancement of the country. On December 31, 1858, he was married to Miss Martha W., daughter of Rev. Charles B. and Mildred (Hughs) Chenault, of Ballard County, Ky., (born July 28, 1844), and to them have been born Mary C. (Mosby), Edna A. (Humphrey) and Mildred B. Mr. Fisher is a farmer, having 250 acres of good land well cultivated. He is an honored member of the A. F. & A. M., and also of the K. of H. In religion he adheres to the Methodist Episcopal Church, and in politics affiliates with the Republican party.
