My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

DR. F. N. SIMPSON was born on August 2, 1846, in Montgomery County, Tenn., and is a son of Edmund and Margaret (Keller) Simpson. The father was a native of North Carolina, the mother of Virginia. In 1854 the parents came to the Purchase, and settled in McCracken County, near Paducah. The father was a silversmith by trade, but after his arrival in the Purchase, he paid most of his attention to farming. He died in February, 1855. The mother died in 1864. Our subject is next to the youngest of a family of eight children, of whom but two are now living, viz.: Emma, wife of Samuel Ragland, of North Ballard, and Frank N. The latter was reared on a farm, and his schooling was received principally in Ballard County. In 1871 he began the study of medicine with Dr. C. McKinney, of Milburn. He read with this gentleman one year, and then attended lectures at the Physio-Medical College at Cincinnati, graduating from that institution with the class of ‘75. He immediately settled in Milburn, where he has had an excellent practice ever since. Dr. Simpson was married on December 7, 1876, to Miss Mary Lovelace, of McCracken County, a daughter of Archie and Mary (Purdom) Lovelace. The result of this union has been five children, three of whom are now living, viz.: Alvin, Guy, and Lloyd. Dr. Simpson is a member of Milburn Lodge, No. 1,989, K. of H. He has served as trustee of the town of Milburn, and he and wife are members of the Methodist Church.
