Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

DR. DAVID P. JUETT was born in Scott County, Ky., March 20, 1836. He is the fifth of six children born to John and Catharine (Kendrick) Juett. The mother of our subject was the third wife of his father. The first wife was a Miss Jenkins; the second and third were sisters. The first union was blessed with nine children, the second with two and the third with six. Our subject’s father was born and reared in Delaware; he was born in 1765, and was eighty-four years of age at his death. D. P. Juett was reared on a farm, received a good English education and attended the Alleghany College, Penn., two terms. At the age of nineteen years he commenced the study of medicine and graduated at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, in the spring of 1857. He located at Lovelaceville, Ballard County, where he formed a partnership with Dr. George Stovall. In 1859 he moved to Blandville. In 1864 he enlisted as surgeon of the Seventeenth Kentucky Confederate Cavalry, with which he remained till the close of the war, when he returned to Ballard County, where he has been engaged in the practice of medicine ever since. He was married November 6, 1859, to V. A. Cockrill, of McCracken County, Ky., a daughter of John W. and Clementine C. (Settle) Cockrill, natives of Christian County, Ky.; our subject was blessed by this union with five children: E. A. May (now Ashbrook), John P., Edwin H., George C. and Kate K. His wife died in May, 1879, a member of the Christian Church. In October, 1880, the Doctor married Kate Cockrill, sister of his former wife, and had two children born to him, both of whom died in infancy. The Doctor and wife are members of the Christian Church. Our subject is a Mason, a member of the K. of H., and was formerly an Odd Fellow. He cast his first presidential vote for John C. Breckinridge, and has voted the Democratic ticket ever since.
