Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

DR. R. H. CRISLER, of Ludlow, Kenton Co., Ky., was born in Boone County, Ky., April 15, 1848, and is the third of a family of six children born to Henry P. and Elizabeth (Gaines) Crisler. Henry P. Crisler was born in Virginia, and when five years of age came to Kentucky with his parents, who settled in Boone County. Mrs. Elizabeth Crisler was a native of Boone County, and a daughter of Richard Gaines, who was a prominent farmer. R. H. Crisler was educated at the schools of Boone County and at Lebanon, Ohio. He taught school in Boone County, Ky., for about three years, during this time reading medicine continuously. He attended medical lectures at Bellevue, N. Y., in 1873-74, and attended lectures at Brooklyn, N. Y., in 1874-75, graduating in 1875. He at once returned to his native county, and followed his profession successfully until December, 1882, at which time he located in Ludlow where he has since resided. He was united in marriage, October 5, 1875, to Miss Lucretia Graves, of Boone County, a lady of culture and refinement, and a daughter of Johnson Graves. One child was born to this union — Carleton G. Dr. Crisler is surgeon for the Cincinnati Southern Railroad, and is a member of the Masonic, I. O. O. F. and K. of H. fraternities, and also of the K. of P.
