JAMES P. TARVIN, a rising young lawyer of Covington, Ky., was born in Covington, November 13, 1859, and is the eldest son of William H. and Eliza (Pryor) Tarvin. The latter a daughter of the late eminent Judge James Pryor, of the circuit court bench, was born in New Castle, Henry Co., Ky. William H. Tarvin, a native of Covington, and a son of Uriah Tarvin, of Campbell County Ky., was a merchant in Covington by occupation. The family were originally from Virginia. James P. Tarvin was educated in the schools of Covington, and read law with Messrs. Pryor and Chambers; he was admitted to practice in 1830, and in 1881 graduated from the Cincinnati Law School. He has been quite successful in the practice of his profession, and as a politician is a hard and earnest worker in the Democratic ranks, having been chairman of the executive committee of his county for several years.
