Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

V. FRANKS was born in Grant County, Ky., September 12, 1824, and is the fourth of a family of eight children, born to William and Nancy (Webster) Franks. The Frankses are of French descent, and came to Kentucky from Michigan; the Websters were from Virginia. William Franks was born in 1837, a son of Nathan Franks. He was a member of the Baptist Church, as is his wife, who still survives him, in her ninety-eighth year. V. Franks was reared on a farm, and now owns 265 acres on the Mount Zion and Crittenden Pike. In 1844 he married Miss Nancy Franks, daughter of John Franks. She died in 1846, leaving one child — William H. In March, 1849, Mr. Franks married George Ann Abernathy, daughter of R. L. and Eliza Abernathy. She was born January 30, 1828. Five children have blessed this union, viz.: Nancy L., Mary L., Daniel A., Martha J. and Luru T. Mr. Franks is a member of the Baptist Church. Politically he is a Republican.
