Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

EZRA K. McCLURE was born in Grant County, Ky., August 24, 1836, and is the second son born to John A., and Eunice (Fish) McClure, natives of Boone County, Ky., and New York, respectively. John A. McClure, who was born in 1798, was magistrate under the old constitution for many years; he died in 1850. His father, Nathaniel McClure, was born either on the waters of the Susquehanna, when his father emigrated from Scotland, or in Botetourt County, Va., and was among the earliest settlers in Boone County, Ky., where he settled at Versailles. Mrs. Eunice McClure was a daughter of William Fish, who emigrated from New York to Pendleton County, Ky. Ezra K. McClure was reared on the farm, and educated at the Crittenden Union College. In 1863 he volunteered in Gen. Churchill’s Arkansas Brigade, remained out one year, and left as second lieutenant. He then returned to Grant County, and engaged in the manufacture of plug tobacco until 1870, when he commenced farming and buying tobacco; he left the farm in 1872, devoting his entire attention to buying and selling tobacco. He sells at Cincinnati, and handles from 160,000 to 400,000 pounds. The tobacco factory is a frame building 100x40 feet with an L 40x25 feet. July 26, 1859, Mr. McClure married Miss Nannie Dickerson, a native of Bourbon County, Ky. Three children have been born to them: Ezra K., born November 25, 1862; Nathaniel F., born July 22, 1865, and Lucian D., born October 25, 1870. Nathaniel graduated in June, 1887, at United States Military Academy at West Point, N. Y., twenty-third in a class of sixty-five, and is second lieutenant with the Fourth United States Cavalry at Fort McDowell, Arizona Territory. Mr. McClure is a Royal Arch Mason.
