Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

Edward B. Kinslaer, a native of Grant County, Ky., was born in 1854, and is sixth of a family of eight children born to James and Mary (Jamison) Kinslaer, natives of Harrison County, Ky. James Kinslaer was born in 1809, and died in 1863. His wife was born in 1828, and died in 1881. Edward B. Kinslaer was reared on a farm, received his education at the common schools in Grant County, and learned the miller’s trade at Dry Ridge, which, together with farming, he has followed most of his life. He owns a fine flouring-mill at Dry Ridge, with all the modern improvements, and commands a good trade. In 1874 he married Miss Lizzie Woodyard, daughter of C. B. Woodyard, of Grant County, and now lives near Williamstown. The Kinslaers and the Woodyards came from Virginia. Mrs. E. B. Kinslaer was born in 1852, and died in August, 1882, leaving three children, viz.: Nora, Charles and Edward (deceased). She was a member of the Christian Church.
