My Genealogy Hound

Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

E. H. CONRAD, a native of Grant County, Ky., was born December 2, 1827, and is the fourth of a family of five children born to William and Elizabeth (Boyers) Conrad, natives of Harrison County, Ky. William Conrad was a tanner by trade, and a farmer by occupation. In 1818 he began the ministry in the Baptist Church, which he faithfully followed until the close of his life. He was arrested during the war, and while in prison at Louisville he preached the gospel to his fellow prisoners. During his ministry he preached and labored in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri and West Virginia. He was a son of Isaac Conrad, a native of Germany, and his wife, Elizabeth, was a daughter of Jacob Boyers, of Germany. E. H. Conrad was reared on a farm, and has always followed farming as an occupation. He owns 385 acres of land on the Lexington and Covington pike, two miles from Williamstown. He was county and also State treasurer of the grange at one time. He married Miss Huldah Jane Beach, daughter of Addison and Polly (Franks) Beach, of Grant County, natives of Kentucky, but of German descent. Mrs. Huldah Conrad was born February 10, 1837; she is a member of the New School Baptist Church. Two children blessed this union, only one of whom is now living — Eldred. Sarah died in her sixth year. Eldred Conrad was born in 1855; he married Miss Katie Steers, daughter of William and Betsey (Conrad) Steers. To them have been born four children: Sarah, William Henry, Bertha and Thomas Theodore.
