Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

FLOYD F. HAYMAN was born in Newport, Ky., November 11, 1849, and is a son of R. Hayman, also a native of Newport, where he was a merchant from 1830 to 1865, and was also a farmer and stock raiser but moved to Portsmouth, Ohio, some years ago. Floyd F. Hayman is one of two children, the other being a sister Mattie, who married Dr. Timple of New Richmond, Ohio, and has two children: Richard and Laura. Mr. Hayman was educated in Newport, Ky., and graduated at the Cincinnati Institute in 1866. He was assistant in an office for three years, after which he was bookkeeper for R. H. Hayman & Co. He then entered the county clerk’s office as recording clerk from 1874 to 1877, and later was in the employ of the Newport Abstract and Index Co., when he went to Alexandria, where he now resides. He is also the regular correspondent of the Kentucky State Journal. He is a member of the Episcopal Church, and a Democrat politically. He is a man of fine business capacities, and is of great service to the public owing to his familiarity with the public records.
