Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 7 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WILLIAM H. CARPENTER was born in Boone County, Ky., July 30, 1815. He is a son of William and Polly (Aylor) Carpenter, both natives of Virginia. William Carpenter was a very prominent southern minister. He came to Kentucky in about 1812, and settled in Boone County, near where our subject now resides; he died February 18, 1833, and his wife in 1835. William H. Carpenter was brought up on the farm, and received a common-school education. He has followed farming from boyhood. In about 1863 he built his present residence, where he has 312 acres of land; he has another fine farm in Boone County, near Florence, of 115 acres, and also owns a farm in Kenton County. January 26, 1843, he married Emily A. Wilson, who was born August 18, 1821, a daughter of Aquilla Wilson, of Kenton County. To this union four children have been born, viz.: Columbus C., Hattie, Butler and William Perry. Hattie is dead. The family are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
