L. C. White dates his residence on his present farm of one hundred and sixty acres on section 11, Union township, since 1884, and is numbered among the prominent farmers and stock-raisers of the county. He is moreover a native son of Union county, having been born in Jones township on the 21st of September, 1858. His father, Isaac White, was a pioneer of Iowa, locating in Jones township at a very early period in the history of the state. Charles S. and E. E. White, brothers of our subject, are mentioned on another page of this work.

L. C. White spent the period of his minority upon the home farm, assisting his father in the work of the fields and attending the district schools as opportunity offered. When he became of age he rented land from his father and operated it until the time of his marriage, after which important event in his life he conducted the home place for a year and then purchased the tract of one hundred and sixty acres on which he now resides. He at once began the development of his farm, clearing the land and adding improvements until he now has a well developed farming property, equipped with all modern accessories He erected barns and also remodeled the house, the latter, however being destroyed by fire in 1903. He has since built a commodious and substantial two-story residence, and in addition to the work of general farming he also raises good graded stock, feeding both Poland China and Chester White hogs. The success which has come to him is well merited, for he has ever been straightforward, energetic and industrious in the conduct of his business interests, winning his prosperity through the utilization of methods which neither seek nor require disguise and which have gained him the respect and confidence of his fellowmen.

On the 21st of December, 1882, Mr. White was united in marriage to Miss Frances Lettie Moffitt, a daughter of Stansel Moffitt and a native of Union township this county. Our subject and his wife are the parents of twelve children namely: Mabel E. and Ada, both at home; Ella, a stenographer at Des Moines; Neal F., Herman S., Abbie, Ira, Willis, Dewey, Eva, Stella and Viola, all of whom are under the parental roof.

Mr. White usually votes the democratic ticket where national questions and issues are involved but also advocates prohibition principles, for he believes that intemperance is one of the greatest evils that the country has to contend with at the present time. At local elections, however, he casts an independent ballot, supporting the candidate whom he regards as best qualified for office. He has not cared to figure in public life as an officeholder, preferring to concentrate his time and energies upon his business interests. Fraternally he is connected with the Modern Woodmen of America at Afton, and both he and his wife hold membership in the Christian church of Pleasant Ridge, in which Mr. White has served on the official board. Throughout his entire life, covering a half century, he has resided in Union county and has therefore been a witness of its transformation from a wild and windswept prairie into a rich agricultural district, teeming with all the advantages and comforts of modern civilization. Both he and his wife are well known and highly respected, having gained a host of friends during the long-period of their residence here.
