H. H. Lorimor, keeping thoroughly abreast with the modern ideas of progressive farming, makes his home on section 15, New Hope township, where he carries on general agricultural pursuits and is also engaged in the breeding of registered shorthorn cattle and Poland China hogs. His farm comprises two hundred acres of rich land, responding readily to cultivation and is known as the Maple Leaf stock farm, for his stock-raising interests are an important branch of his business. It is in the corporation limits of the town of Lorimor and is altogether a valuable and attractive property.

Mr. Lorimor was born in Marion county, Ohio, October 20, 1853, and is a son of J. S. Lorimor, whose sketch is given above. The son was brought to this county in childhood in 1854, was reared upon the old homestead farm and pursued his preliminary education in the district schools, while later he attended the Winterset high school. When not occupied with his school books his time was largely devoted to assisting his father, with whom he remained until twenty-five years of age, carrying on the work of the farm year by year.

On the 12th of March, 1879, Mr. Lorimor was married, in Madison county, to Miss Mary L. Vert, who was born in Washington county, Iowa, and was there reared. They began their domestic life on the place which has since been their home and Mr. Lorimor has since given his time and energies to its further development. Among the improvements which he has added is a large, substantial residence, built in an attractive style of architecture, convenient in its arrangements and pleasing in its appearance. Not far distant is a big barn and also one of smaller dimensions. He has set out fine shade trees and planted an orchard and thus upon the once treeless prairie are seen many fine specimens of forest growth, the dense foliage of which brings grateful shade to the lawn and to the home in the summer months. After bringing his fields under cultivation Mr. Lorimor also took up the work of breeding shorthorn cattle and now has a fine herd of seventy head of pure blooded stock with a pure Scotch male at the head of the herd. He also breeds and deals in Poland China hogs and is known throughout the county as one of its most prominent stock-raisers, shipping extensively to Wisconsin, Colorado and other points.

Mr. and Mrs. Lorimor have become the parents of two children: Waldo W., who is upon the farm; and Gladys, the wife of V. A. Garmon, a business man. The parents attend the Methodist Episcopal church and Mr. Lorimor is a republican in politics. He has served as township trustee, has been identified with the school for several years, and has represented his party in its county conventions. The name of Lorimor has long been an honored and prominent one in connection with the agricultural interests of this part of the state and the record of H. H. Lorimor is one which reflects credit upon the name, for he is widely known as a trustworthy, energetic business man.
