Frank Lamb conducts a well improved farm of two hundred acres in Union township, pleasantly and conveniently situated within two and a half miles of Afton. It annually pays good tribute to him for the care and labor which he bestows upon it and indicates in its attractive appearance his careful supervision and progressive methods. Mr. Lamb is a native of Fond du Lac county, Wisconsin, born January 23, 1850.

His father, Peter Lamb, was a native of New York, born in 1811, and was a son of David Lamb, also a native of the Empire state. Peter Lamb was reared there and after arriving at years of maturity he married Hannah Bennett, who was born in New York. He afterward moved to Wisconsin, settling in Fond du Lac county, where he opened up a new farm. Later he sold that property and became a resident of Henry county, Illinois, where he remained for several years. In 1886 he came with his family to Iowa, and spent his last years in Union county, his death occurring in 1902, when he had reached the very venerable age of ninety-one years. His widow still survives him and resides with her son Frank at the age of eighty-four years. The family numbered two sons, the brother of our subject being August Lamb, who married in Illinois and afterward came to Iowa, living for a number of years in Afton. He died, however, in 1900. The father was a soldier of the Eighty-ninth Illinois Volunteer Infantry in the Civil war and served until honorably discharged for disability, participating in the battle of Shiloh and other engagements.

Frank Lamb removed to Illinois with his parents, spending his boyhood days upon a farm in Henry county, where good educational privileges were afforded him by the common schools and the Lafayette high school. He remained with his father until he attained his majority and afterward engaged in farming in Henry county, where he rented land and carried on agricultural pursuits for seven years. He was married in October, 1884, to Miss Mary Johnson, who was born there.

In 1885 they removed to Union county, where he rented land and carried on farming for several years. At length his untiring industry and economy brought him capital sufficient to enable him to purchase a farm and in 1894 he bought his present property, comprising two hundred acres of rich and productive land, which he at once began to improve and develop. He has added to and remodeled the house, has built a barn and has a granary, ice-house, carriage shed and corn crib. In fact, his farm is supplied with all modern improvements and is enclosed with woven wire fences. Mr. Lamb carried on farming there until 1903, when he purchased residence property in Afton and took up his abode in the city, but his time and energies are still given to the supervision of the farm and its further development.

Unto Mr. and Mrs. Lamb have been born two children: Pearlie, at home, and Frankie, the wife of Orrin Criss, a railroad man of Omaha, Nebraska, by whom she has one child — Hortense. Mr. and Mrs. Lamb have a wide acquaintance in Afton and the surrounding country and enjoy the high regard of all who know them. Politically Mr. Lamb has been a life long republican but has never sought nor desired office. He has lived in the county for twenty-three years and his life has ever been that of an energetic, progressive agriculturist, a reliable citizen and a faithful friend.
