Edward B. Hayner, who since 1879 has made his home in Union county, resides on section 23, Lincoln township, where he is giving his time and energies with good success to the raising of grain and stock and the well developed appearance of his place is due to the care and labor which he has bestowed upon it. He was born in Galesburg, Knox county, Illinois, June 30, 1870, his parents being Henry C. and Henrietta (Carpenter) Hayner, the former a native of Perry county, Pennsylvania, and the latter of Ohio. The mother died on the 29th of January, 1906, at the age of fifty-six.

Edward B. Hayner was only nine years of age when the family came to Union county and within its borders he has since resided. For twenty years he has made his home in Lincoln township and is now the owner of eighty acres on section 23, which is devoted to the raising of grain and stock. His business interests are carried forward along progressive and substantial lines.

In 1892 occurred the marriage of Edward B. Hayner and Miss Lila Moorhead, who was born in Wapello county, Iowa, August 8, 1874, a daughter of Otis D. and Lucy (Howell) Moorhead, both of whom were natives of Ohio. The father now resides at Creston and is the owner of a farm in Lincoln township, this county, but the mother is now deceased. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Hayner has been blessed with three children: Fern, Fay and Irene.

In his political views Mr. Hayner is a stalwart, republican, interested in the growth and success of his party, and he is now serving for the second term as township clerk. During a residence of almost three decades in the county he has witnessed much of its growth and development, has seen its wild lands transformed into fertile fields, while towns and villages have sprung up and the county has been dotted here and there with good schools and churches and with comfortable homes, indicating the development of the county in accordance with modern ideas of civilization.
