SHAW, JOHN, farmer and stock raiser. Sec. 4, P.O Roodhouse. The above named gentleman is a native of Virginia, born in 1835, oldest son of J. C. and Rebecca Shaw. He was but two years of age when his parents emigrated to Illinois, locating first in Scott County, and two years later in Greene on the farm property now owned by J. C. Shaw. John, on attaining his majority, rented a farm of Wm. Andrews, for six years, afterwards renting of E. M. Husted. During the flush war times he here procured his first start in life, having purchased a tract of 100 acres in 1868, he moved on to it, in after years becoming successful through great industry; his present farm comprises 200 acres, on which he has lately erected a handsome farm residence. His wife was Miss Sarah E. Allman, a daughter of Nelson Allman, a native of North Carolina.
