Below is a family biography included in The History of Adams County, Illinois published by Murray, Williamson & Phelps in 1879.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. LEACHMAN, WM., farmer; Sec. 7; P. O. Ursa; was born in Louden county, Va., Oct. 22, 1802. In 1804 he emigrated with his parents to West Virginia, and settled in Wood county, where he lived until 1825; then moved to Jefferson county, Ky., where he married his first wife, Dec. 4, 1828, who was Miss Jane Taylor, of Pennsylvania, born Aug. 16, 1806. By this marriage he has six children, three boys and three girls. He lived there until 1835, when he moved to this county, and settled on the place where he now lives. His second, and present, wife was Mrs. Elizabeth Stewart, to whom he was married July 5, 1846. She was born in Jefferson county, Ky., Aug. 16, 1813. He owns 147 ½ acres of land, the most of which is in a high state of cultivation, elegantly improved, abundantly stocked with fruit, and very valuable. He is Democratic in politics, and a member of the Christian church. He is one of the few early, enterprising and industrious citizens now left who have been so conducive to the county’s prosperity.
