TANSMAN, WILLIAM H., wood dealer, Maine street, near 3d; residence, 142 South Eighth street; born in Germany, near Berlin, in 1839; located in this city in 1846; married Miss Kate Sundermann in 1864. She was born in this city in 1845. Their children are: William H., John H., Freddie H., and Annie C. They are Lutherans. He was a Republican in 1862; was elected Alderman of the 4th Ward that year on the Republican ticket, and re-elected in 1866 by the Democrats, he having become a Democrat in the meantime. He was appointed a member of the Board of Education in 1867, and reappointed Supervisor of 1876. He is a Mason, and also a member of the German Benevolent Widows and Orphans’ Society.
