SCHAFER, WILHELM, blacksmith, southeast corner of 10th and State streets; residence same. He was born in Niderkeinsbach, Hesse Darmstadt, Europe, June 13, 1832, and emigrated to America, landing at New Orleans, La.; from that city to Quincy, arriving there May 3, 1849; married Miss Elizabeth Merker, in Quincy, May 3, 1854. She was born in Pennsylvania, in 1834. Four children: Sarah aged 16 years, Frederick 14, Maria 12, and Lydia six years of age. Religion, Protestant. Politics, Republican. Real and personal property valued at $6,000.
