GARNER, JOHN M., farmer; Sec. 17; P. O. Clayton; was born in Adams county, Ill., March 3, 1844. His parents were Robert R. and Harriet (Downing) Garner, natives of Indiana. He always lived on a farm in Clayton township, except five years, from 1870 to 1875, when he lived in Hancock county. Oct. 18, 1864, he married Ann M. Beckett, who was born in Adams county, May17, 1844. She died Sept. 25, 1875, leaving three children, two of whom have since died. The living son is Edwin C., born Oct. 11, 1865. Mr. G. is a member of the Masonic Order, and of the M. E. church. He owns a farm of eighty acres in Hancock county, worth $3,000.
