COFFIELD, JAMES, Physician; P. O. Loraine; was born in Adams county, Aug. 21, 1838; attended district school until he was twenty years old, then went to Quincy College three years, and the next two winters taught district school. He married Aurilla B. Akins, May 4, 1865. She was born in Venango county, Penn., Jan. 3, 1846. Had four children, two living. He began the study of medicine in 1871, and graduated in the Cincinnati Eclectic Medical College in 1874. He practiced medicine in Loraine in 1874. In the winters of 1874-5 he attended the medical college at Keokuk, Iowa, and practiced the next summer; also attended the American Medical College at St. Louis. Since that time he has been engaged in the drug business in Loraine, and practicing his profession. He has been Postmaster since 1878. He owns 175 acres of land (160 under cultivation), worth $8,750.
