THOMAS, BENJAMIN, farmer; Sec. 18; P. O. Loraine; was born in Butler county, Ohio, Sept. 3, 1831; came to Adams county in 1837, with his parents. They had eight children; three were born in this county. He married Miss Elizabeth J. Stilwell in 1853. She was born in Johnson county, Ind., in 1834. They have had eight children, seven living. Mr. Thomas has 148 acres of land, 125 acres of which is under good cultivation, worth about $5,800. His father is one of the oldest settlers of Adams county; has seen it grow from a wilderness up to its present state of cultivation.
