W. R. Munn. The family to which the subject of the present sketch belongs is of Scottish descent, the grandfather, Duncan Munn, living in Scotland, and the father, Neil Munn, being one of the pioneer planters of Tennessee, and afterward settling in Arkansas. In the latter named State, he whose name heads this sketch was born on March 15, 1858, and there received his education in the common schools. At quite an early age he commenced business for himself, being to-day one of the most prosperous and popular of Nevada County’s citizens. Mr. Munn first purchased land in the immediate neighborhood of his present property, which embraces 160 acres of highly cultivated land and yields a handsome income. Besides farming, he has given considerable attention to mercantile business, owning an interest in a large store at Lanesburg, and a half interest in an extensive steam saw-mill, cotton-gin and grist-mill. Naturally, therefore, Mr. Munn is classed among the wealthy men of his district, and has been very successful through life. In 1883 he was married to Miss Tina Garrett, daughter of D. F. Garrett, an influential and prosperous farmer of Nevada County. They have three children, viz.: Willie, Aline and Oscar. Mr. Munn is a member of the Farmers’ Alliance, in which he holds a prominent position, and is a stanch Democrat, taking a lively interest in all that pertains to the welfare of that party.
