T. W. Davis is a prominent and honored resident of the county and is ranked among its successful agriculturists. He was born in Madison County, Tenn., in 1849, being the third of five children born to Henry and Martha M. (Holmes) Davis. [For parents’ history see sketch of H. C. Davis.] T. W. Davis was reared to a knowledge of farm life in his native State, attending the district schools, where he received a practical education, sufficient for the necessary purposes of every-day life. He remained with his father engaged in cultivating the old homestead until twenty years of age, and two years later was united in marriage to Miss Annie Scallions, also a native Tennessean. He continued to till the soil in that State for three years after his marriage. In 1873 he became occupied with the farming interests of Lonoke County, Ark., and also attended school there for one year. Here his wife died, leaving him with two little children to care for, but they, too, died soon after. He first located in Mississippi County in the year 1875, and after farming for three years in Chickasawba Township removed to Blythesville, and opened a store, which he successfully conducted for several years, but also continued his farming operations. He made his first land purchase about the year 1877 and now owns 100 acres, twenty-five being in a state of cultivation. This is a fine tract of land and is nearly all capable of a high state of cultivation. Mrs. M. E. Pollard, a native of East Tennessee, became his second wife in 1880, and by her he is the father of two children: Morris E. (deceased) and Mildred Elsie. He and wife attend the Methodist Episcopal Church, and ever since twenty-one years of age he has taken an active interest in politics, serving as deputy under Sheriff Haskins. In 1885 he was elected justice of the peace, serving two years, and in 1889 was chosen county assessor, which office he still holds, discharging his duties in a manner above criticism, and with a thoroughness highly creditable to all concerned.
