Below is a family biography from the book,  The History of Crawford County, Arkansas published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1889.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

Thomas Simco is a native of Crawford County, Ark., born in 1853, and is a son of Thomas and Sarah (Pope) Simco. The father was born in 1824, located in Crawford County about 1836, and died in 1871. Mrs. Simco was born in Tennessee in 1828, and as the mother of nine children, three of whom are living and residents of this county: William, Albert and Thomas. Marion and Rebecca Pope, maternal grandparents of our subject, came to this county from Tennessee, and were engaged in agricultural pursuits. Thomas Simco passed his youth here in Crawford County, receiving but a limited education, and in 1872 married Miss Rebecca Meadows, a native of the county, born in 1854, and a daughter of Samuel and Martha (Pope) Meadows. Mr. Meadows was born in Kentucky in 1832, and his wife in Tennessee in 1833. They both left their native States for Crawford County, Ark. In 1859 they went to Missouri, but returned to this county in 1867. Nine children were born to them, all of whom, save one, live in Crawford County: Mrs. Nancy Teague, Mrs. Rebecca Simco, John W., of Texas; Mary A., Sarah D., Andrew J., Martha, George L. and Ida B. Mr. Simco is a prosperous citizen, almost his entire property having been made by farming. He owns 120 acres of land, sixty-five of which are well improved and cultivated. Among the improvements may be mentioned three fine orchards. To Mr. and Mrs. Simco, two children have been born, Sarah and William Allen. Being a Republican, Mr. Simco cast his first presidential vote for Rutherford B. Hayes, in 1876. He is a Mason, and a member of the I. O. O. F.
