William C. Norman is a native of Clark County, born near his present place of residence on June 1, 1866. He was reared and received his literary instruction in his native county, attending the common home schools, and when fourteen years of age commenced in life for himself, and has ever since been working on his own account. He has been engaged in the mercantile business at Kingsland and Smithton, and is now postmaster at Smithton, and the manager of the Smithton Lumber Company's store at Smithton, which concern does an annual business of over $50,000. In 1885 he was united in marriage to Miss Viola Arnold, daughter of Thomas Arnold, of Camden, and the fruit of this union has been one child, Thomas Cecil. Mrs. Norman is a member of the Baptist Church. Mr. Norman is a Royal Arch Mason. As a proof of his good health it may be said that Mr. Norman's weight is 220 pounds. While in Kingsland, in 1887-88, he edited the Cleveland County Democrat for one year, and also served as mayor of that little city.
